Who doesn’t love a Maritime Malt? Some early starters of Barrel & Batch will remember a certain single cask that we brought out in the start of 2021 - Half Time Oranges we nicknamed that cask. Sweet, citrus and moreish, an oily delight loved by many.In November 2022 we made the drive up to the small town of Wick to visit the Old Pulteney distillery…well the drive was also to reseal the deal on backing up our first cask from Old Pulteney.
Seal the deal that day we did not, however Malcolm Waring the master distiller spared no stops in spoiling us with an amazing time and unforgettable tour.
We drank from some amazing casks and some distillery exclusives, unfortunately our shores simply do not see enough of Old Pulteney at its best. Malcolm showed us, or so he’d heard ;) the secrets of siphoning new make from the spirit safe, which led the question of trying said new make. This led us to the cask filling room and a suspect metal bucket on the floor. Malcolm pointed to the bucket and said “there you go”, with a heart full of trust I went straight for the bucket only to be paused by Malcolm. Thinking the fun was over he turned the bucket and said “From that side boy, it’s cleaner.”From Half Time Oranges at 53%, we now give you our official release from Old Pulteney for this month that we are coining - Lemon Butter Cake! Bottle at a “drinkable” 52% we know this one backs up our first Old Pulteney, and we’re certain you’ll agree.
NOSE Creme Brûlée, salty white chocolate, vanilla sponge cake
PALATE Lemon butter, fresh citrus, vanilla cream
FINISH Citrus oil and moreish

Old Pulteney Single Cask #1193 has been matured by the sea in a fine, hand-selected American oak ex-bourbon barrel. Amber gold on the eye, notes of salted caramel and toffee are complemented by creamy chocolate and fresh citrus. Honey and smooth vanilla fade to notes of sweet candied fruits with a hint of sea air on the finish, reminiscent of our coastal home.
